Corpse Husband: Engineering the Deep

Managing the most famous low-end on the internet.

Corpse Husband's voice is an engineering anomaly. It has so much sub-frequency content that it naturally clashes with 808s and kick drums. 'E-GIRLS ARE RUINING MY LIFE!' is a case study in managing extreme bass frequencies.

01.Taming the Lows

To mix Corpse's voice, you have to aggressively high-pass filter it—sometimes up to 100Hz or more—just to make room for the actual bass instruments. Despite this, his natural timbre retains that signature rumble.

02.Distortion is Necessary

Clean compression isn't enough. Distortion adds upper harmonics that trick the ear into hearing the bass even on small speakers. This saturation makes the vocal aggressive and audible on phones.

03.Minimal Bass

Because the vocal takes up so much low-end space, the 808s effectively have to 'take turns' with the vocal or be mixed entirely differently. The arrangement often leaves space when he speaks.

04.Loudness Wars

This track is crushed. The limiter is working overtime to shave off peaks, creating a square-wave-like density that sounds massive and distorted in a pleasing way. It's the sound of SoundCloud rap perfected.

Mixing Corpse isn't about capturing reality; it's about sound design. His voice is treated more like a synth bass than a human vocal.
